The Emotion:
This piece is a moment in time, a beautiful still moment in a vulnerable journey of strength and resilience that is drawn from the depths of the heart in the midst of turmoil and pain. In the stillness she breathes, gathering the strength to stand. Unmoved and powerful while still guarding the fragile beauty of a gentle heart, she will stand against the wind as her wings catch the light of a new dawn.

Size:
31cm Length, 16cm Breadth, 20cm Height
Materials:
Coils of coloured copper wire in three sizes: 0.2mm, 0.3mm and 0.5mm
Technique:
The technique is unique and self taught. With no reference or pattern, the process is intuitive, adaptive and exploratory. The sculpture is created by wrapping fine threads of wire around a number of slightly thicker strands which create the form and structure. The delicate wire is cut using an ordinary pair of nail clippers. Starting with a 'spider's web' formation at the crown of the head the artist simultaneously moulds the structural strands and wraps the fine thread by hand. The symmetrical feathered wings and the hair, comprising of over 1400 strands of individually cut 0.2mm wire, were created separately and joined to the sculpture at a later stage.
